1321 inhabitants, four breweries - sounds like a world record? Indeed it does. The jury of the Guinness Book of Records thought so, too, and in 2001 included the community of Aufseß in the Bayreuth district. For the highest density of breweries per inhabitant. One of these four world record breweries from Franconian Switzerland is the Reichold brewery. It is located in the hamlet of Hochstahl, about 10 kilometers from Aufseß, and has been owned by the Reichold family since 1906. Currently, boss Hilmar is in the brewhouse. Following good old tradition and with a very individual touch, he brews classic Franconian beers: a lager - not so sweet, lightly hopped and very drinkable, an amber-colored Zwick'l, an unfiltered Kellerbier, a well-hopped Dunkles and an incredibly drinkable Weizen. All beers that are a must-try. As is the simply delicious Franconian home cooking that Chef Katinka prepares in the cozy brewery restaurant.
Become an "honorary Franconian beer drinker" of the four world-record breweries.
If you want to taste all the beers from the four world record breweries, we recommend a hike from brewery to brewery. The "Brewery Trail" is a total of 14 kilometers long and leads from Aufseß via Sachsendorf, Hochstahl and Heckendorf back to the starting point. In each place, you can stop at a brewery inn, drink a Seidla or more, enjoy Franconian delicacies and get a stamp in your hiking passport. At the end of the hike, as a souvenir and to thank you for your visit, you'll receive a certificate that makes you an "Honorary Franconian Beer Drinker of the World Champion Breweries". Sounds good? It is.
A little tip from the experienced: If you need a longer stopover during the hike, which can happen... In the pension of the brewery Reichold you can stay overnight at a reasonable price. Should you be on the road with the camper. Adjacent to the brewery is a parking lot for motor homes. Highly recommended!
