Products from Brauerei Scherdel
In March 2022, Scherdel Brewery won three gold medals in this year's competition held by the German Agricultural Society (DLG). This was the nineteenth time in a row that the Hof-based company, which is now an independent member of Kulmbacher Brauerei AG, has demonstrated the quality of its beers. This year, the Scherdel wheat beer, the naturally cloudy cellar beer Scherdel Zoigl and the classic Scherdel Edelhell were awarded.
Behind the success of the Scherdel brewery lies a history that is now over 190 years old. In 1831, Georg Scherdel received a license for the baker's trade and thus also for brewing beer. Because the capacity of the public municipal breweries was no longer sufficient, Scherdel built his own brewery - right next to the rock cellars in Unterkotzauer Weg, already the most beautiful rock cellars in the city at that time. And that's where the real story began.
Today, a total of 13 types of beer are brewed in the brewhouse of the Scherdel brewery. Some of them are even still brewed according to old family recipes. What makes Scherdel beers so special? The best raw materials from local agriculture, an individual wort, the very highest quality and: the highest quality controls. In our own laboratories, the brewing process and quality parameters are closely monitored and checked. Sascha Greßmann (head brewmaster) and Tanja Fischer (brewmaster and quality officer) are responsible for ensuring that the quality continues to be outstanding. It is not without reason that Scherdel beers are considered to be among the pearls in the beer region of Fragen.
Scherdel Edelhell and Schlappenbier - Hofer Schlappentag
With these two pearls, the brewery has been making history for years. The Edelhell, a full-bodied pilsner that makes the hearts of every pilsner fan beat faster. As well as with the "Schlappenbier". This is only available once a year - on Hofer's "national holiday", the Hofer Schlappen Day. The Schlappenbier is brewed according to an old secret recipe and, of course, only in limited quantities. Once it has been drunk, you can only hope for a sip next year...
