Products from Brauerei Trunk 14-Heiligen
Beer heaven on earth! This can be found in the Upper Franconian district of Lichtenfels, in Bad Staffelstein to be precise, directly behind the world-famous Vierzehnheiligen Basilica, at the Trunk Brewery. Beer has been brewed here since 1803 - real "emergency helpers", in the truest sense of the word. When the pilgrims come out of the forest above the pilgrimage church, many like to fortify themselves in advance with a genuine Franconian Seidla and a homemade snack before visiting the basilica. Even if the motto here in Franconia is actually: First the church, then the beer.
Old brewery in new splendor
In 1989, the Trunk family took over the monastery brewery and extensively modernized it in 2004. Since then, the brewery has shone in new splendor. The team headed by master brewer Andreas Trunk brews 10 Franconian beer specialties - not only the well-known 14-Hiligen Nothelfer Dunkel, but also nine other characterful top- and bottom-fermented beers. For the beer, Trunks uses only regional ingredients in the brew: malts from Kulmbach and Bamberg, as well as the highest-quality hop varieties from the following growing regions: Hersbrucker Perle from Stefan Elfinger in Au, Spalter Select from Spalt, Tettnanger Hopfen from Hopfen Bentele Tettnang and organic hops for Bio-Weisse Josef Amann Bad Gögging. Quality you can taste.
Cosy: The Bräustüberl with its beer garden
Beer is tapped in the Bräustüberl all year round. Not only the 14-Hiligen Nothelfer Dunkel - also Pils, Lager, organic wheat and, depending on the season, seasonal beer specialties. And because these simply taste best with a genuine Franconian, homemade snack, you'll find a rich selection on the snack menu: Homemade salt belly, canned meat with farmer's bread, mustard & gherkin, smoked meat or homemade Gerupften, for example. Not to forget the legendary homemade sauerkraut - optionally with kielbasa, liver sausages, bockwurst or red sausages. Sounds delicious? It tastes like it. But it's only available from mid-October to mid-March. You should know that before you head out.
The beer garden is in high season during the summer. Here you can sit in the shade of the church towers and surrounded by tall trees. A real must - not only for pilgrims who visit Franconia's most beautiful pilgrimage church, but for all connoisseurs.
