Schafkopf and beer - they've always belonged together at the Wagner Brewery in the Upper Franconian community of Memmelsdorf. Because the Wagners, who have run the family brewery since 1797, have always enjoyed playing cards. When there is time. This is also currently the case for brothers Günter and Rainer Wagner. As brewmasters, they are responsible for "hops and malt" in the traditional brewery - and very successfully at that.
Specialty of the house: unrounded lager beer
Unspun lager is a Franconian beer specialty found almost exclusively in Bamberg and the surrounding area. Because the beer is stored unspun (i.e. without being tapped in the keg), the carbon dioxide can escape successively, which ultimately makes the beer more digestible. The Wagners' unsparkled lager tastes wonderfully drinkable and full of character - with an alcohol content of 5.3%, it tends to be one of the stronger beers among the lagers. The Wagner brewery currently has a total of seven types of beer in its range, including another specialty, Kupferstich Rotbier. In addition, there are seasonal brews for festive and bock beers. All of them are of such convincing quality that the brewery has also attracted attention from outside the region in recent years. At the European Beer Star Awards, for example, the Wagners won many a gold medal.
Pub and beer garden
In winter, people meet in the pub, in summer outside in the garden. Because it is not only wonderfully cozy here, but also because the dishes at Wagners taste especially good. Admittedly, the menu offers little for vegetarians or vegans, but all the more for lovers of Franconian home cooking. We say only roast pork, beef, veal or venison, dumpling days always on Tuesdays and Thursdays, every six weeks Schlachtschüssel. Not only the brewery has cult status in Upper Franconia - so does the restaurant.
