With his own brew kettle, master brewer Mike Schmitt fulfilled his dream of brewing his own beer - in 2008, in the village of Pretzfeld, in his mother-in-law's old cowshed on Egloffsteiner Straße. He didn't really need his own brewery in the village. With around 200 breweries, Franconian Switzerland is a world-famous beer region. Opening your own brewery here requires courage, a willingness to take risks, professional expertise, or simply a lifelong dream. Mike Schmitt had a bit of everything and managed to fill a brewery niche in the area. With exclusively unfiltered beers, especially cellar and lager beers, for which Nikl-Bräu is now known far beyond the borders of the village. In addition, there is the "Weiße Eule", a fabulous wheat beer with an unbelievably creamy head, as well as various special brews and barrel-aged specialties from the Nikl Selection. For example, the "Old Django" (named after the nickname of great-grandfather and fruit distiller Johann Hofmann). A bock beer with a fruity, fresh pear aroma, fermented with Franconian Williams noble brandy.

It took a lot of sweat to renovate the cowshed and open the pub right next to the brewhouse. Now you sit in the bright guest room, look through a pane of glass into the heart of the brewery, onto the mighty brew kettles - and can watch Mike Schmitt brew. Provided he's not standing at the bar tapping the next Seidla. The menu at Gasthof Nikl features genuine Franconian home cooking: schnitzel, sausages, roasts, snacks and homemade bread. This is always part of the Schmitts' menu. By the way, Mike's wife Alexandra, his mother and his mother-in-law are responsible for the preparation. They all cook with a lot of passion and experience. Also the specialty of the house: sour loin with dumpling. Simply delicious!
